We are looking for someone to join Team Yuma as an Electrician, working with the Department of Utilities. This ideal candidate will be responsible to maintain Water and Wastewater (W/WW) electrical equipment and systems using technical skills, mechanical proficiency and knowledge of electrical systems.
Under general supervision, this job classification performs duties of a professional electrician including installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of electrical equipment, components, and specialty Water and Wastewater (W/WW) treatment plant electrical systems for the City of Yuma's Utilities Department; recognizes abnormal conditions, and solves electrical systems problems.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Locates and repairs electrical problems in W/WW facilities in accordance with mechanical and electrical codes; works independently, and makes appropriate decisions based on work experience; duties may vary according to job assignment.
- Performs electrical repair and maintenance activities within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; notifies supervisors of repair problems beyond the scope of authority.
- Maintains W/WW electrical equipment and systems using technical skills, mechanical proficiency and knowledge of electrical systems; inspects work to verify compliance to quality and safety standards.
- Inspects, tests, calibrates, installs, maintains and repairs electrical systems, components, and devices; reads and interprets diagrams, schematics and blueprints; prepares project cost estimates.
- Examines equipment malfunctions to determine cause and troubleshoot actual and potential problems.
- Examines components to be repaired and determines the proper repair techniques; studies schematics to determine needed repairs or replacement of components; replaces faulty components, and tests finished job to determine system capability; updates wiring diagrams as needed.
- Inspects a variety of electrical equipment; assures equipment functions meet job specifications and technical codes; maintains and updates daily log of activities; keeps current on issues and trends in electrical and electronic equipment.
- Installs, repairs, calibrates, and updates electrical wiring, fixtures, instruments, motors, pumps, generators, and specialty equipment and components; discusses scope of problems with supervisor, and recommends repair methods and techniques to correct problems and maintain system stability.
- Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations; responds to emergencies as needed.
- Confers with mechanics, technicians, plant operations personnel, and outside services to coordinate planned installation, repair, and preventive maintenance work.
- Recognizes abnormally operating equipment, and uses advanced troubleshooting methods and skills to diagnose and analyze conditions, and recommend required repairs.
- Supports the relationship between the City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values and the "Yuma Way", and complies with all City policies and procedures.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation, Training and Experience Guidelines High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND four years experience as a skilled industrial electrician and completion of an electrical apprenticeship program: OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge of: - City policies and procedures.
- National Electrical Code and other local and state regulations and codes.
- Theories and principles of electrically operated valves, pumps, electrical motors, and controls.
- Principles, practices, and safety and quality standards for electrical system repair and maintenance.
- Functions and servicing requirements of W/WW plant machinery and equipment,
- Safe work practices, occupational hazards and safety precautions in a W/WW utility plant.
- Federal and state safety rules and regulations in W/WW utility plant environments.
- Repair and maintenance techniques for W/WW plant facilities, and servicing requirements of plant machinery and equipment.
- Electrical equipment up to 600 volts.
Skill in: - Reading and interpreting technical plans, schematics and specifications.
- Using a variety of diagnostic methods and techniques for troubleshooting all types of W/WW electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Interpreting and applying technical standards and procedures, state rules and regulations, and City policies and procedures.
- Interpreting technical manuals, instructions, blueprints, sketches, and diagrams for the maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical equipment and components.
- Testing, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining electrical equipment and systems.
- Operating and maintaining specialized utility system maintenance tools and equipment.
- Interpreting technical instructions and analyzing complex variables.
- Promoting and enforcing safe work practices.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required. Additional technical training and certifications may be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed on location at City W/WW Utility plants with moderate physical requirements, and strength sufficient to lift and move items weighing up to fifty pounds; working from ladders and/or bucket trucks and lifts at heights more than 150 feet. May be exposed to safety hazards, extreme temperatures, inclement weather conditions, and dangerous tools and equipment. Physical dexterity is required to work in confined spaces, and use precision tools and equipment; requires vision capacity to perform fine calibrations and distinguish between colored wires.
The City of Yuma offers the following benefits to Full-time City employees:
*ARIZONA STATE RETIREMENT SYSTEM (ASRS) - City employees are automatically enrolled in the Arizona State Retirement System. Employees contribute 11.86% (pre-tax) and the City contributes 11.86% of employee gross wages through automatic deduction. Should an employee terminate City employment, the ASRS funds may be withdrawn or remain until retirement. Contributions to the ASRS are in addition to FICA (Social Security taxes).
*LONG TERM DISABILITY (LTD) - Included through the Arizona State Retirement System. Employees contribute .14% and the City contributes .14% of employee gross wages. LTD contributions are in addition to FICA (Social Security taxes).

*WORKER'S COMP. - Insurance coverage for medical expenses and loss of income due to an on-the-job injury is provided by the City of Yuma for all employees.

*LIFE INSURANCE - The City provides a life insurance policy for employees in an amount that is equal to your annual salary. *FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT - The plan establishes a reimbursement account, which is designed to provide you with a means of paying for certain medical, dental, vision, and dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars. The amount you designate is subtracted from your earnings before taxes and is deposited in your flexible spending account. As a new employee you have 30 days from your hire date to enroll.
*EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM - Provides free counseling sessions for employees and family members, as well as a 24-hour crisis line for emergencies.
*COMPENSATORY LEAVE (COMP. TIME) - Paid leave that an employee has elected to accrue in lieu of overtime payment.
*GENERAL LEAVE - This leave is available for all regular full-time and regular part-time employees and is paid leave for an employee's personal time off. General Leave can be used 90 days after your hire date. General Leave accrual varies by the employee's years of service, with increases at 5, 10, 15, and 20 years of service.
