Experience Requirements

  • IV Start Experience: Required
  • Traveler Candidates:
    • Open to first-time travelers with at least 1+ year of experience
    • PET and Nuclear Med experience preferred, not required
  • Direct Hire Requirements:
    • No new grads
    • 2 years of prior PET experience required

Job Title: Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Certification Requirements

  • Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS) License
    • Either ARRT(N) or CNMT (Nuclear Medicine certification)
  • Note from Radiology Manager:
    All Nuclear Medicine Technologists must hold an AZDHS license. To obtain this, they must be certified through either ARRT(N) or CNMT.

Department Overview

  • PET Coverage: ~70% of the time
  • Nuclear Medicine Coverage: ~30% of the time
  • Scanners/Rooms:
    • 1 PET Scanner (Philips Gemini – mobile unit, new machine expected Sept)
    • 3 Nuclear Medicine Cameras (Siemens)

Duties & Common Imaging Types

  • PET CT:
    • Brain and whole-body studies (no cardiac)
  • Nuclear Medicine:
    • Bone scans, brain scans, cardiac pool, MPI SPECT, CSF cisternogram, gastric emptying, HIDA, GI blood loss, lung perfusion, parathyroid, renal scans, sentinel node, thyroid (whole body, uptake), PSA scans, and more.

Patient Volume

  • PET: 8–10 scans per day (1 tech)
  • Nuclear Medicine: 12–15 scans per day (shared between 2 techs)

Systems & Equipment

  • EMR: Epic
  • PACS: eUnity (General Viewer), MIMS (PET Viewer)
  • Equipment:
    • PET: Philips Gemini (mobile), new unit expected September
    • Nuclear Medicine: Siemens cameras

Staffing & Supervision

  • Lead Tech: Functions as Alternate Radiation Safety Officer; works closely with new hires
  • RRAs: Not utilized
  • Radiologist Coverage: In-house, 24/7

IV Start Requirements

  • Yes – must be able to start IVs

Shifts & Scheduling

  • Days: Monday–Friday
    • 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
    • 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Scheduling: Managed by centralized scheduling office; uses a set template

On-Call/Weekend/Holiday Coverage

  • On-Call: Every 3rd weekend (Saturday–Sunday)
    • Call-ins are rare (typically once per weekend, if any)
  • Holiday Coverage: Part of on-call rotation

Dress Code

  • Scrubs: Grey scrubs (self-provided)

Orientation

  • Duration: Up to 2 weeks with lead tech
  • May be extended depending on experience and individual needs

Team Environment

  • PET/Nuclear Medicine is a small, close-knit department of 3 staff members.
  • Strong emphasis on collaboration and support.
