ABOUT THE POSITION
Under general supervision, enforces city ordinances, and state laws relating to parking regulations and public transportation, directs vehicular and pedestrian traffic; interacts with the public in regard to enforcement issues and general information matters; services and maintains parking enforcement equipment, such as meters, parking machines and signs; and performs related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Enforces parking laws and public transportation regulations; patrols streets on foot, bicycle or in vehicle; identifies vehicle parking and public transportation violations and determines, writes and/or issues citations or warnings in accordance with city, or state laws, regulations, ordinances and procedures.
- Responds to calls of possible illegal activity, traffic congestion, or complaints related to areas of responsibility; within scope of responsibility and expertise, may assist and coordinate with the police personnel, fire department or other law enforcement or public safety agencies as necessary.
- Interacts intensively with the public on an ongoing basis; receives, listens to and skillfully handles parking and public transportation enforcement issues and complaints.
- Researches and responds to customer complaints, questions and concerns or refers complaints and requests to supervisor or other departments as warranted.
- Educates the public regarding parking regulations and citations.
- Answers questions from public regarding city geography and other general matters.
- Conducts inspections of vehicles used in public transportation commerce; checks public transportation drivers to insure adherence to city ordinances and state laws related to public transportation.
- Services and maintains parking enforcement equipment and vehicles.
- Monitors proper functioning of, cleans and performs minor repairs of parking meters and machines; notifies supervisor of malfunction that require repair outside scope of expertise.
- Collects money from parking meters and transports to City Hall (Utilities Department).
- Identifies curb repainting and signage needs and recommends resolution to supervisor.
- Directs traffic at intersections or other locations when needed or requested by police personnel.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
IDEAL CANDIDATE Knowledge of:- State laws and City Ordinances related to parking regulation.
- Procedures, terminology and techniques to operate two-way radios and handheld electronic ticketing devices.
- City organization, operations, policies and procedures.
- Computers and specialized hardware and software for preparing reports and maintaining records.
Ability to:- Interpret, apply, explain, and enforce laws, codes and ordinances related to parking enforcement.
- Exercise sound judgment within established guidelines and supervisory direction.

- Understand and follow written and oral instructions in English.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Required:- High school diploma or GED
- A valid Arizona driver license at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
- Residency in the United States and within 25 miles from the City of San Luis.
Desired/Preferred:- San Luis Residency.
- Fluency in both Spanish and English.
- Patrol and code enforcement experience.

Work EnvironmentWork is performed in a standard office environment and in the field at a variety of public and private locations; may occasionally be required to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects.
